BSN's core mission is to enable and build a thriving space industry in the Greater Boston & New England area.
In fact, there is already a fledging space ecosystem in our region. Our Space Column will regularly feature companies, organizations, and groups to uncover the vibrant & exciting space activities happening here.
George is our inaugural editor for the Boston Space Column. He was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, in 1959. He grew up in Maryland, outside of DC, as his dad worked at NASA Goddard. He has a BSEE from Univ of Maryland and a MSEE from Cornell University. He developed software and hardware for long-haul optical fiber systems at AT&T Bell Labs in Holmdel, NJ, during 1981-1989. Then he backpacked all over the world during the next three years (no employment!).
George married and settled down in Fukuoka, Japan, in 1992 – and proceeded to live and work there for the next 32 years (raised four kids, too, in Fukuoka). He worked as an engineer for Panasonic during 1992-2004. He then installed magnetometers all over Asia and Africa during 2005 - 2015, working for Prof. Yumoto at Kyushu University. The mag data collected in real time is used to study space weather (even today). During 2015 - 2022, he worked for Prof. Cho as assistant professor at Kyushu Institute of Technology (Kyutech) in the field of space engineering.
Finally, in 2024 he moved to Boston to be with his mom and four kids. He currently works part time for ArkEdge Space, a space startup based in Tokyo. He loves the seafood of New England.
"I have been in Boston for less than a year, but it is apparent there is a great deal of space passion in the New England region. Unfortunately, not much is formally known about the various space entities in this region: who they are, what they do, where they are, and so on. As the inaugural editor of BOSTON SPACE COLUMN, I welcome your contributions. Let’s shed light on this space ecosystem to find out about the active space players of the Boston area." - George
Our goal is to feature companies, institutions, organizations, and groups across Greater Boston and New England area regularly. Any groups that work in space or space-adjacent sector are welcomed and there are no cost involved.
